One Idea Creative Studio hired us to design some new year typography posters in preparation for the new year. To enhance attraction and incorporate the Chinese tradition into the design, we combined the Hewen proposition (Taipingshengshi) on the poster. Taipingshengshi means peace and prosperity, and the Hewen is a Chinese ligatures game, and it is a combination that doesn't stand for morphemes. Instead, it maintains the actual multiple morphemes or multi-character reading to create a beautiful typography pattern. A well-known ligature used during the Chinese Lunar New Year on the spring festival scroll is a blend of the four main characters for Zhaocaijinbao, which stands for "ushering in wealth and fortune". We also chose the Chinese new year greetings as our theme, and we used red and golden hues as the primary colours on the posters. The outcome was a set of vibrant posters with great uniqueness.
